I like RSS and newsreader because it allows me to have contents from multiple Web sources in one place. I no longer have to visit different Web sites to obtain the lates information on my topics of interest. I can decide which articles I wish to read by simply clicking a link.
I could use this technology in my personal life by subscribing to all my favourite stories on Google reader. Google reader allows me to organize my stories in separate folders with headings describing my favourite topics e.g. library, gardening, travel and cooking etc. All these folders can have multiple RSS feeds, and for simplicity, can be read easily through my personalized IGoogle screen.
Libraries can take advantage of this technology in a number of ways. It can be used to keep updated with the latest news e.g. library news, world news, and information technology news and so on. This technology can also be used to minimize searching for up-to-date information potentially increasing the efficiency of the library. Other applications/benefits include the use as effective too to network with other libraries e.g. to share what you see, read and learn. Services can be broadly promoted to clients.
Very thoughtful comments, Anna
